Hello!

Thanks to the efforts of activists like you, Fair Trade and fair labor
practices are is gathering more support each day. For example, Fair Trade
coffee is now sold by over 120 companies at over 7,000 locations in the US.
However, a lot of people still don't know about that Fair Trade products
such as coffee, tea, chocolate, and handicrafts can be bought in the US. To
help build support for Fair Trade among their local communities, Fair Trade
supporters around the world will be organizing a host of activities on
"World Fair Trade Day," May 4, 2002. Here is one GREAT way for you to be a
part of this diverse international effort to bring Fair Trade to more
struggling producers around the world...

Café Hopping for Coffee Farmers: Get Fair Trade into more cafés in your
neighborhood on World Fair Trade Day, May 4, 2002!

In the spirit of our Fair Trade Coffee campaign, we are encouraging you to
take some time on May 4th to visit each café in your neighborhood, talk to
the manager and employees about Fair Trade, and fill out a short report
sheet to record your activities. This is a positive, fun, and easy way to
promote Fair Trade- we¹ll send you all the materials you need and a small
group could do this in a few hours by taking on different areas of town. If
the café already sells Fair Trade that¹s great! Be sure to buy a cup of
Fair Trade coffee and a few pounds of beans and tell them you appreciate
what they are doing!* If the café doesn¹t sell Fair Trade, explain why, as a
consumer, you would like them to sell Fair Trade. Our information packet
includes background information, tips for making your case, and a list of
Fair Trade Certified coffee suppliers you can give the managers.

*Cafes that already serve Fair Trade coffee may also be interested in
setting up a sampling table on Fair Trade Day. If you know of any such
cafes if your area, talk to the manager a few weeks ahead of time and
encourage them to do this. We can help you get materials to be handed out
at the sampling table.
