Central Indiana Jobs with Justice
Central Indiana Jobs With Justice is a labor, community, religious and student coalition dedicated to fighting for the rights of working people. We work in partnership with member organizations and allies in building solidarity and mobilizing direct actions for secure living-wage jobs, health care, and workplace and civil rights for all. JWJ also sponsors a Worker's Rights Board made up of prominent community leaders who conduct hearings and investigations on matters of concern to working people, consistent with the mission statement of the coalition.
Responsibilities
· Internal organizing and mobilization. The Intern will motivate activists on our constituency list to become more active and involved in actions and mobilization for JWJ activities.
· Coalition building and recruitment. The Intern will assist in and help coordinate outreach to potential new member organizations and individuals. This might include sending information, tabling at events, and setting up meetings.
· Programs and actions. The intern will help the steering committee organize JwJ programs and actions, including Workers' Rights Board hearings.
· Administration. The Intern will maintain the JwJ database of pledge signers. Will also provide logistical and administrative support to the steering committee and sub-committees to help carry out meetings and activities.
Qualifications
· Solid commitment to the principles of social and economic justice and a desire to learn about the labor movement and its issues.
· Ability to self-direct as well as take direction.
· Excellent communications skills, both oral and written.
· A strong ability to motivate people and coordinate volunteer activity.
· Enthusiasm for working with a wide range of organizations and people.
· Proficient in computer skills.
· Three month commitment over the summer.
