discrimination lawsuit filed against Sodexho (Sodexho is the world largest
food service company and provides food service at many campuses in the US

Plaintiffs in Racial Discrimination Lawsuit Against Sodexho Seek Class
Certification.
A class action racial discrimination lawsuit filed by ten current and former
Sodexho managers has entered a new phase. The plaintiffs have filed a
motion for class certification.
The class they seek would include all African Americans who are or were
salaried employees at any of Sodexho's various divisions and locations from
March 9, 1998 to the present, and who have held or sought to obtain an
upper-level managerial, supervisory, or professional position; or who have
held a job that would lead to such a position.
Among the allegations contained in the plaintiffs' motion are the following:
-- Sodexho's company-wide promotion process is uncontrolled and entirely
subjective, virtually guaranteeing racial bias;
-- Promotion decisions are based on the decisionmakers' own personal
preferences rather than validated selection criteria;
-- Sodexho has known for years that its white managers discriminate against
blacks in promotions but has chosen not to stop it;
-- Sodexho intended to discriminate against African-Americans in the
promotion process;
-- Sodexho has ignored warnings to remedy its promotion discrimination and
has sought instead to cover it up;
-- Statistical evidence confirms promotion discrimination against
African-Americans;
-- African-Americans are under-represented in upper-level management
positions at Sodexho;
-- Sodexho segregates its workforce based on race.
